The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that Pluribus would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by public opinion, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
