Putin Pledges Continuous Crude Oil Shipments to the Indian Nation in Defiance of Washington Pressure

During a clear statement to Western nations, President Vladimir Putin informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Russia remains committed to guarantee “uninterrupted” supplies of crude oil to India. These remarks came during a summit where both heads of state met in New Delhi and asserted their partnership were “immune to external pressure.”

A Statement Aimed at the West

This affirmation, issued after the annual summit, seemed to be a pointed rebuke at Washington, which have tried to pressure New Delhi into scaling back its close links with Moscow. The backdrop comes after earlier US actions, such as the introduction of tariffs on India due to its buying of discounted Russian crude.

“Russia is a trustworthy source of oil and gas and everything necessary for the advancement of India’s economy,” he remarked. “Russia is prepared to persist in ensuring the uninterrupted flow of fuel for the fast-expanding Indian economy.”

Modi, while not naming energy directly, echoed the sentiment by noting that “secure fuel supplies has been a robust and vital foundation of the bilateral partnership.”

Challenging Washington's Stance

Before the meeting, via a media interview, Putin had challenged US interference regarding India's dealings with Russia. Putin stated, “Should America can claim the privilege to buy our atomic materials, then why can't India have the identical right?”

The visit marked his first visit to India after the start of the situation in Ukraine, and Moscow and Delhi engaged in a deliberate attempt to project that the personal rapport between the two leaders was undisturbed.

A Warm Greeting

Employing an rare move, Prime Minister Modi welcomed directly Putin right off the plane. The two exchanged a hearty embrace akin to longtime companions before enjoying a private dinner the night before the summit.

He later described India's relationship with Russia as “a beacon” and added it was “built on reciprocal esteem and deep trust.”

Expanding Strategic Partnerships

The bilateral summit yielded several significant pacts across military and economic cooperation. A cornerstone agreement was the completion of an joint economic plan that runs to 2030, which sets a goal to increase twofold mutual trade to one hundred billion dollars each year by the target year.

The leaders also vowed to recalibrate their defence ties. While Russia continues to be India's largest exporter of defence equipment, the volume has reduced in recent years as India has sought broaden its sources.

The joint statement emphasized plans for the co-development of sophisticated weapons platforms, even if explicit reference of systems like the fifth-generation aircraft were left out.

Overall, Moscow and Delhi affirmed that amid the “current complex, strained, and uncertain global landscape, their relationship remain durable to foreign influence.”
