Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Substantial ATC System Failure

A technical fault at the airport's ATC meant no planes could enter or leave the airport.

Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were halted because of an systems problem that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, considerable delays are expected to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others experiencing delays.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers continue to be advised to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as residual delays are cleared.
